The Farmer’s Breakfast

Sweet and savoury specialities, just like the old days.

Cascina La Commenda offers to its guests and external clients, on reservation, the Farmer’s Breakfast, an experience that takes us back in time, using natural and tasty ingredients, just like in the old days.

The bread is baked in our wood-fired oven, the cakes and biscuits are homemade with stone-ground flour, and the jams are made with our own fruit.

We also offer savoury specialities such as local cheeses and charcuterie, along with omelettes, frittate and other dishes made with the freshest eggs of the day, accompanied by seasonal vegetables. Hot drinks, juices and fresh fruit complete the culinary experience, allowing you to savour the authenticity and substance of a traditional country breakfast.

Breakfast is available for room guests and, by prior arrangement, for external guests wishing to start the day with a boost of energy.

The most important meal of the day, as it used to be.

In preparing the Farmer’s Breakfast for our guests, we are inspired by the tradition of farmers eating two breakfasts to get them through a day’s work in the fields.

The first, at dawn, was quick and frugal, based on an energising cup of coffee before plunging into the agricultural work. Breakfast itself, the most important meal of the day, came in the middle of the morning, after the most demanding tasks had been completed. It was a moment of reward and energy to face the rest of the day. The ingredients, simple but rich, included bread, eggs, cheese, polenta, fresh milk and whatever the land offered in the different seasons. At that time, sweets were still unknown in rural cuisine, so breakfast was mainly savoury.
